Dryll y Car is the award winning psychiatric
unit that I manage, this is a description of the
service that it provides. The unit has a
reputation as a centre of excellence and has won
several major awards, been featured in TV
programmes like 'Horizon', and staff have been
invited to travel all over the world to give
presentations about our unique approach to
helping people with mental health problems.
'Secret
Lives' is about my work with
perpetrators of sexual abuse, it describes how
perpetrators operate, the cycle of offending and
how this impacts on the victims of abuse.
Coping by Cutting was published in the
Independent, the Nursing Standard and several
other national newspapers. It deals with the
issues surrounding self harm.
'Exploring
Person Centredness' was a piece of research I
participated in some years ago, it is a
qualitative study of client's experiences of
Dryll y Car. It was published in 'Health
and Social Care in the Community' 7(6), 475-482.
'SHAVE' was
Self Harm, Abuse and the Voice Experience, a
conference organised by Ron Coleman of the
hearing voices Network. This is a transcript of
the speech I gave at the conference. It deals
mainly with people's experience of self harm, and
the problem that professionals have dealing with
it.
I wrote this Research Report a few years ago when I got annoyed about
psychiatry pathologising normal behaviour.
This is
the transcript of a talk I gave about the
possibility of there being
intelligent life elswhere in the Universe.

Kali Munro's site offers some very good information
on male victims of abuse, and on survivirs of
abuse perpetrated by women.
'Monsters with Human
Faces' was an article
in the Guardian in 1999. As you read this bear in
mind that these 'nice' men are almost certainly
lying, have probably raped a number of children,
and have managed to successfully groom the
journalist into printing their distorted thinking
in a national newspaper.
Scott Abraham is a male survivor of abuse by his
mother, and struggled for years trying to make
sense of information for survivors of abuse
directed at women, this is a review of literature
available for male survivors.
Jim
Hopper's page is a
useful resource for information about statistics
about sexual abuse, sexual abuse of males and
recovered memory sydrome
Remembering Dangerously is a good article on the dangers of
memories of abuse recovered during therapy.
The methods by
which memories are implanted in cases recovered
memories of abuse are remarkable similar to those
surrounding people who claim to have been
abducted by aliens. Alien Abductions Incorporated is a spoof, but sadly not too far from
the truth. It's very funny though. For a more
informed article try this pone from the Skeptical Enquirer
The Woodsman
is an excellent film that follows a man who is
trying to re-enter society after 12 years in
prison for sex offences. I thought this was a
very realistic portrayal of a paedophile, he
finds relationships with adults difficult, has a
target age for his victims, he picks on children
with no other friends and pretends to share an
interest, recognises the behaviour of other
paedophiles immediately, and denies that he has
harmed the children that he molested. The more he
is shunned by adult society because he is seen as
a monster, the more he is tempted by
relationships with children. The film also
touches on the thorny issues of how far 'normal'
people are sexually attracted to children, and
the issue that once children have become victims
of abuse they are more open to sexual
exploitation by others.
